Bryson, Emily Montez Academic Libraries Data Collection Database Management Systems Departments Higher Education Information Retrieval Information Storage Library Statistics Records (Forms) This project was designed to develop a uniform statistical reporting system that could be used by all of the library departments at Chicago State University to collect statistical information, both for major statistical reports, and for the library's daily operations. It is noted that the statistical forms were designed to enable the staff member responsible for updating the statistics in each department to take the information directly from the form without having to interrupt or change the data, and also to make it possible to adapt the form to a computer database. Section I, an overview of the project, includes a discussion of the database selection--R:Base System V--and a list of sources relevant to the type of statistical information compiled for this report. Information in Section II, the major part of the report, is divided alphabetically by the nine library departments, i.e., cataloging, circulation, collection development, government documents, interlibrary loan, materials center, periodicals, reference, and reserve. A brief review of each division includes a summary of discussions held with the department head on the types of statistics needed, their application to library operations, copies of forms currently used to collect statistics in the department, and a copy of the statistical reporting form which was developed for this project to be used with R:Base System V.
