The first section summarizes the roles and responsibilities of the library media program. This is followed by a section that addresses personnel issues, including guidelines for professional and support staff; the roles and responsibilities of principals, teachers, library media specialists, and support staff; and guidelines for staffing patterns for building level library media centers. The information curriculum is discussed in the third section, including state and American Library Association guidelines and curriculum-related roles and responsibilities of library media specialists. Building level resources, including budget, collections, and equipment, are considered in the fourth section. Guidelines for facilities planning are provided in the fifth section; and the sixth addresses networking, including the roles of district-level support, regional media centers, the State Department of Education, higher education, and other networks and resource sharing. Three appendices provide an annotated bibliography of 91 titles on library media center administration, cooperation and networking, collection management, and planning for the integration of library media programs; references to related sections of the Iowa Administrative Code; and a list of related Iowa Department of Education publications.
