Bookmobiles Design Requirements Equipment Equipment Maintenance Guidelines Library Administration Library Collection Development Library Services Program Evaluation Specifications This publication is based on the work of The State Library of Ohio, the National Bookmobile Guidelines Committee, and staff of local Ohio bookmobile programs. Draft guidelines were approved by the 7th National Bookmobile Conference (May 31-June 2, 1992). The Guidelines provide brief statements of standards followed by specifics which indicate whether guidelines are being met. The Guidelines are divided into four sections: (1) Administration, which includes management, funding, staffing, supervision, stops, evaluation of service, collection development, and marketing/public relations; (2) Public Service, which includes circulation services, information services, and target audiences; (3) Bookmobile Vehicle Construction Guidelines, which cover specifications for size, the chassis, the body, interior furnishings, heating and air conditioning, auxiliary power, driver's area design, applicable regulations and laws, safety equipment, important miscellaneous items, and optional equipment; and (4) Bookmobile Maintenance, which recommends following all maintenance and warranty documents, developing and following a schedule of maintenance, having a reliable mechanic and convenient garage available, daily and periodic maintenance, generator maintenance, and a back up delivery system. Lists of the members of the National Bookmobile Guidelines Committee and the members of the Ohio Bookmobile Focus Group are included. (KRN)
