This study also evaluated whether they have the funding for GOLD and related technology. A 45-item questionnaire was developed and sent to a stratified random sample of 128 public and private school library media specialists in Georgia. Seventy percent (89) responded. Of these, 93 percent do not participate in any formal interlibrary loan system with a published lending policy, but 94.2 percent felt that their students could benefit from formal interlibrary loans. Forty-four (50.6 percent) of the media specialists were familiar with GOLD, and 89.2 percent would like to learn more about how their media centers might become members. Almost all (97.7 percent) of the media centers have someone on staff with computer training, but only 34.5 percent actually have experience in online searching. Fifty-five percent feel that they have funding for GOLD, and 47 percent already have an online public access catalog or plan to purchase one within 3 years. GOLD would be feasible for half of the centers surveyed, with a potential for more. Eight tables present study findings, and four appendixes contain a Georgia map, the field test letter, the cover letter and questionnaire, and comments. (Contains 30 references.) (SLD)
