- Developing Lifetime Readers. A Report on the 1991 "Year of the Lifetime Reader" Promotion Campaign of the Library of Congress. Thompson, Michael, Comp. Cole, John Y., Ed. Adults Elementary Secondary Education Family Literacy Lifelong Learning National Programs Program Descriptions Reading Habits Reading Improvement Reading Programs This report describes the "Year of the Lifetime Reader" campaign, which focused on family literacy. The report has a threefold purpose: to review the events, projects, and activities that took place across the country; to stimulate thinking on how to make future campaigns even more effective; and to make available the ideas that have already been proven effective in the promotion of reading. The report presents: (1) a selective listing of national events, state events, and projects in the schools that were part of the campaign; (2) a list of publicity, posters, and publications involving the campaign; (3) a selective listing of the activities of the 109 national organizations and associations that participated in the campaign; and (4) 12 of the black and white winning photographs in a contest sponsored by the campaign. Some statistics on the Center for the Book, and a listing of partners of the Library of Congress in the Year of the Lifetime Reader campaign are attached. (RS)
