- Metalibrarianship: A Model for Intellectual Foundations of Library Information Science. Nitecki, Joseph Z. History Information Science Library Science Models Philosophy Theories This monograph was written to answer questions about the essence of librarianship, the meaning of information, and the principles behind a desire for information transfer, preservation of older records, or creation of new ideas. The work is organized into three parts. Part I is titled "In Search of a Discipline: Toward a Science of Library Information (LIS)" and includes chapters 1-4. Part II is titled "Defining Library Reality: Philosophical Inquiry" and includes chapters 5-8. Part III is titled "Metalibrarianship" and includes chapters 9-12. The chapters are as follows: (1) Introduction; (2) Historical Milestones in Librarianship; (3) Changing Paradigms of Library Information Science; (4) The Issue of Library and Information Science Self-Consciousness; (5) Conceptual Framework; (6) What Is Philosophy of Librarianship? (7) Emerging Philosophy of Librarianship; (8) Theories about Knowledge; (9) Intellectual Environment of Metalibrarianship; (10) The Concepts of 'Information' and 'Knowledge' Revisited; (11) Theory of Metalibrarianship; and (12) Metalibrary Implications.
