And Others Academic Libraries Foreign Countries Higher Education Library Administration Library Associations Library Statistics Library Surveys Library Technical Processes Preservation Questionnaires Research Libraries This Association of Research Libraries (ARL) publication presents data from 119 U.S. and Canadian research libraries that were members of ARL during the 1991-92 fiscal year. The Preservation Statistics Questionnaire was designed to yield statistical information on the current level of preservation efforts in research libraries and on the key organizational, functional, and fiscal components that characterize preservation programs. Most of the data contained in this publication are descriptive indices of preservation activities in research libraries including preservation staffs, expenditures, and productivity. The data are also useful in determining the organization of preservation units and the components of preservation programs. The report is divided into three parts: (1) summary data tables for personnel, expenditures, preservation treatment, and preservation microfilming display the aggregated statistics describing the current level of preservation efforts in ARL libraries; (2) an analysis of core data for all reporting ARL libraries provides an analysis of the responses without displaying the data from individual libraries; and (3) an analysis of core data based on the size of the collection provides statistical measures in four groupings by size of library.
