contents Helping Teachers Teach: A School Library Media Specialist's Role. Second Edition. Turner, Philip M. Cognitive Style Course Integrated Library Instruction Elementary Secondary Education Evaluation Methods Instructional Design Instructional Development Instructional Systems Learning Resources Centers Learning Strategies Library Role Media Selection Media Specialists Needs Assessment Resource Allocation School Libraries Student Evaluation This book provides the tools for school library media specialists to make a significant and positive impact on the children and young adults in schools. The goals of this work are to delineate a realistic role structure for the school media specialist; to present the role of instructional consultant as obtainable and desirable; and to provide the basic tools for increasing participation in instructional consultation. The first six chapters define the instructional consultation role and place it within the context of the comprehensive role of the school library media specialist. The remaining chapters each cover a step in the instructional design process: needs assessment, learner analysis, instructional objectives, assessment of student performance, strategies and activities development, materials selection, implementation, and evaluation. Each chapter contains information to assist the school library media specialist in providing varying levels of consultation to teachers, a "Thought Provokers" section to allow the reader to immediately utilize the material presented, and lists of references and additional readings. Included in the appendices are: answers to thought provokers; an instructional consultation assessment chart; a student learning styles questionnaire; a learning tools inventory; a sample unit; and suggestions for preparing and administering traditional tests.
