T. Wehrle Memorial Library from 1888 to 1993 is presented. This is the only pontifical college outside Rome, Italy. Pontifical status reverses the tradition of local control by the bishop of the diocese. The college supports a curriculum of liberal arts and the School of Theology. The library supports the curriculum. A major strength of the library is the theological collection and archival materials in Latin and German. The published and unpublished primary sources used in this paper were based on "de visu" examination. This history is meant to stimulate further research into theological library history.
