Practicum activities included biweekly educative and social support workshops for the parents and extended family members; an educative newsletter; pre-implementation and post-implementation surveys of all participants; a library of books and periodicals for participants; facilitation of a peer "buddy system"; and dissemination of information about medical, psychological, and social resources within the community. The practicum resulted in 15 extended family participants receiving information and support pertaining to issues surrounding the child's disability. The participants exhibited an improved attitude in coping with the disability, and 11 of them demonstrated an improvement in their emotional reactions to the disability.
