The cooperative program involves the local literacy association, school district adult education program, and technical college, and offers ESL placement and instruction at all levels of language proficiency, both individualized and in small and large group contexts, and instruction in American culture. Program accomplishments described here include: centralized intake testing; referral services; expanded language laboratory usage; expanded instructional and supplementary materials at all instructional levels; decreased duplication of effort; expanded class offerings and reduction of the waiting list; student recruitment efforts; expanded and improved teacher training; expanded and improved technical assistance services; program evaluation; and dissemination of program results. Supporting materials, appended to the report, include tutor, class, and language laboratory log sheets; referral forms; student interest inventory, outline and evaluation sheet for the teacher orientation program; library procedures; library inventory; student exit self-evaluation; teacher training followup checklist; and student recruitment poster.
