Based on input from practicing librarians at the elementary and secondary levels, the studies are designed to provide students and media center managers with tested scenarios from which they can gain ideas from the experiences of others and gain leads to more expertise through the literature. The first 15 case studies are listed under the heading "Managing People for a Better Learning Environment." Topics covered include Media Specialist Evaluation; What Do They Do, Anyway?; A Censoring Volunteer; Public Library Cooperation; Credit for Student Library Assistant; A Standard Style Manual; Countering the Teacher Planning Period; Critical Thinking Skills; The New Clerk; Divided Programs; Equality for All--Is It Practical?; Leaving the Teaching to the Librarian; Written Policies and Consistent Action; Bible Study in the Library; and New Kid on the Block. Listed under "Managing Resources and Equipment for Greater Access to Information," Cases 16 through 25 focus on Video Copyright Policies; Equipment Depreciation; A Donation from a Board Member; You Can't Weed; Student Is Injured Moving Equipment; Closing the Library for Special Programs; Purchase without Preview; The Librarian as Censor; Computerized Overdues; and Memorial Book Collection. Cases 26 through 32 are listed under "Managing Facilities and Budgets to Plan for the Future." Topics covered are: Using Funds to Target Specific Units; Is There a Need for Statistics?; Understanding the Budget; Facility Plan Gone Awry; Finding Federal Funds; Selling Interlibrary Loan; and Helping the Disabled.
