contents The Association of College and Research Libraries Standards for College Libraries as Applied to the Anatolia College Library, The American College of Higher Studies, Thessaloniki, Greece. Pousoulides, Dorothea College Libraries Cultural Differences Evaluation Methods Foreign Countries Higher Education Library Collections Library Facilities Library Services Library Standards Objectives The American College of Higher Studies (ACHS) in Thessaloniki, Greece, is in the process of expanding and improving its library's collection and facilities in order to meet American regional accreditation standards. An evaluation of the college's Anatolia College Library with regard to collection, staff, services, administration and facilities was conducted using the "Standards for College Libraries, 1986" of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). Results of the evaluation are summarized, and recommendations are made for improvement of the library based on the ACRL grading system. The usefulness of the ACRL standards as evaluative tools is also explored. The Anatolia Library is in the process of improvement, with clear objectives. While the library does not contain as wide a variety of resources nor as many as the standard suggests, collection development has been a priority. Organization of materials complies with nationally approved conventions, and services are tailored to the needs of students as much as possible with staffing and budget constraints. The standards are found to be useful and effective tools for evaluation, simply stated and easy to use. Some necessary adaptations to Greek culture are discussed. An appendix provides additional details about library operation. (Contains 18 references.) (SLD)
