contents Resource-based Learning Activities: Information Literacy for High School Students. Bleakley, Ann Carrigan, Jackie L. Access to Information Curriculum High School Students High Schools Information Retrieval Information Skills Information Sources Learning Activities Librarians Library Instruction Library Skills Research Skills Teachers Users (Information) Workbooks This workbook is intended to help high school students achieve information literacy. It goes beyond basic library skills instruction to incorporate 50 different research activities into regular classroom curriculum. The activities provided for resource-based learning help the student to: (1) identify the kind of information needed; (2) locate and access the information; (3) analyze and evaluate the content; (4) decide how to use and organize the information; and (5) effectively communicate the outcome. Part One presents a learning method that actively engages students in using various resources to acquire knowledge. Part Two consists of activity plans that have been used successfully by secondary teachers and librarians. Subject areas represented include English, science/health, social studies, and vocational education. 50 completely reproducible activities are included, with student instructions and librarian/teacher guidance. Four appendices offer alternative resources that may be substituted if the suggested ones are unavailable, addresses for ordering selective research tools, additional research topics, and suggestions on getting started using electronic references. (Contains 73 references.) (MAS)
