The first and second sections provide a library and information skills mission statement and an introduction. The collaborative planning process is covered in the third section, including a description of collaborative planning, assessing the process and a collaborative unit, and sample collaborative planning guides. In the fourth section, the problem-solving process is defined and six main skills are highlighted; examples and an assessment of the process and a guide to research planning are also provided. The fifth section defines literacy, and discusses components and assessment of a literacy program. The sixth section contains position statements on the following: technology, flexible scheduling, appropriate staffing for school library media centers, and the role of the school library media program. Appendices provide a list of information and library media skills, 10 ways to analyze children's books for racism and sexism, examples for content area reading, assessment models, and model lessons.
