  • The Almanac of Higher Education: 1995. College Faculty College Students Demography Educational Finance Ethnic Groups Higher Education Institutional Characteristics Minority Groups State Norms Student Characteristics Teacher Characteristics This overview of higher education in the United States is organized into two main sections, respectively headed "The Nation" and "The States." The section on national issues opens with summary statistics on higher education enrollment, expenditures, attainment, and demographics, followed by key data displayed in map form. It then lists nine key issues affecting higher education and their status in each of the 50 states. This is followed by data on student test scores, enrollment, and student characteristics, along with faculty and staff salaries, attitudes, activities, recruiting, and characteristics. Institutions and institutional resources are then examined, including endowments, voluntary support, financial trends, tuition, costs, library holdings, and administrator attitudes. The 1995 edition also includes a special international section that provides details on faculty attitudes and characteristics in 13 countries and Hong Kong. The bulk of the volume addresses state issues, providing a detailed profile of higher education in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, including data on demographics, political leadership, colleges and universities, faculty and students, educational finance, and current educational issues. Data sources are provided, as well as a table showing the distribution of enrollment by racial and ethnic groups for over 3,300 colleges and universities in 1992. (MDM)
