  • Digital Collections Inventory Report. McClung, Patricia A. Access to Information Archives Data Conversion Databases Directories Information Sources Information Storage Library Collections Online Systems Preservation Primary Sources Research Projects This report is intended to inform and stimulate discussion on digital library programs as well as the potential usefulness, scope, and desired features of future inventories of online digital collections. It describes a joint project by the Commission on Preservation and Access and the Council on Library Resources to determine the extent to which the digitization of library collections is being planned and implemented. Results of their inquiries are listed in the form of a worldwide directory of major projects; each entry typically includes the proposed time frame of the digitizing project, the size, content, and format of the collections being digitized, and a contact person. Groupings of entries include: (1) very large projects featuring national literature, history, and/or politics; (2) significant activity in the broad subject areas of law, Latin American and Caribbean studies, classical studies, literature, history, culture, science and technology, and agriculture; (3) special, archival, and manuscript collections; and (4) infrastructure projects, "lists of lists," and journal conversion projects. Appendices include electronic mail files submitted to the author which contain lists of imaging projects, a brief outline of the Clearinghouse of Image Databases, and a list of members of the Consortium for Optical Imaging in Law Libraries.
