Access to Information Computer Networks Consortia Experimental Programs Information Technology Internet Library Networks Long Range Planning Pilot Projects Public Libraries Internet Access for Florida's Public Libraries was a pilot project that linked six public libraries to the Internet for twelve months between October 1993 and September 1994. The project sought to collect information and identify issues that would help in devising future plans and policies for network development for libraries. The project continues and has been expanded to all 78 members of the Tampa Bay Library Consortium, which is comprised of public, academic, school, and special libraries. This document provides an overview of the project in various phases such as initial Internet access, site demonstrations, training, technical support, coordination and monitoring services, and communications and reporting. Also included are participant observations about the effects of access on their organizations and recommendations for the future. Appendices include copies of: (1) LCSA Title I Grant proposal; (2) request for proposal for training; (3) request for proposal for technical support; (4) Tampa Bay Library Consortium Internet policies; (5) a press release; (6) the final project budget; and (7) an outside evaluation report.
