- Contributions of Women: A Research Unit. Nelson, Betty Beattie, Rob Active Learning Elementary Secondary Education Females Feminism Interdisciplinary Approach Social Studies Thematic Approach United States History Womens History Womens Studies This unit provides a 2-week plan for a research project for inclusion of women's history in the classroom. The stories of notable women, past and present, can be very instructional for students as they glimpse their own futures. Both boys and girls benefit from knowing about the true lives of women and their work in the world. Learning how to locate and organize information for later retrieval and manipulation is a critical skill. Using notable women for subjects, this unit guides students through various stages of the research process in 14-16 class hours. To help expand students' levels of thinking, activities were developed in accordance with Bloom's Taxonomy. Students use the list of process verbs to design their own activities for the designated tasks. Suggestions include sharing final products with the rest of the school, in hallways or library displays. (EH)
