Chapter 1 focuses on the debate within librarianship regarding the influence of feminism on the profession. Chapter 2 outlines the differences between the two most prominent feminist ideologies affecting librarianship: liberal or mainstream, and radical. Chapter 3 briefly discusses the impact of feminism on librarianship from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to the present. Chapter 4 consists of an interpretive content analysis of the literature about library women written by American library women. Chapter 5 is an analysis of the citations that appear in the literature and Chapter 6 constitutes a content analysis of "women's programming" at the American Library Association (ALA) annual meetings. Chapter 7 discusses the conclusions deducted from this study and gives implications for these conclusions; suggestions are also given for future study. Appendices include an annotated bibliography of the 250 articles and books examined, and a listing of "women's programming" that was held at the ALA annual meetings, 1965-85.
