This work, written by library professionals, is intended as a basic reference source which librarians in training can use to study the fundamental needs of patrons who are not well served by the print medium and to consider the materials available for these patrons who will require their assistance. The book is divided into six sections: (1) "Education and Training"; (2) "Accessing the Library"; (3) "Services to Students"; (4) "The Impact of Technology"; (5) "Production Practices"; and (6) "Awareness Issues for Librarians." An appendix discusses national standards for libraries serving people with print impairments. A glossary is also provided. (Author/AEF) |
