Each issue will focus on a different application or aspect of library technology. This issue discusses electronic reserves. It is divided into five sections. The first section contains an introduction focusing on disadvantages of paper-based reserve systems and capabilities of electronic reserve systems. The second section provides answers to key questions for library planning, including who will build the system, who will manage the work, which access restrictions will be implemented, how copyright will be handled, and what it will cost. The third section presents reports of what several academic libraries and library product vendors are doing in the area of electronic reserves. The fourth section discusses future trends and the final section addresses other trends in library systems. (AEF) |
