The book focuses on practical techniques and is divided into three sections. Part 1 begins with a discussion of what the "new library" is, when and why it developed, and who the new librarians and new library users are. Part 2, the how, is a step-by-step guide to putting together a teaching program, including basic designs for a program, how to set the stage for success, which types of instruction are right, how to become a teacher and teach others to teach, and how to develop and maintain a program. Part 3 examines the settings in which the new library is being taught: at the reference desk, in electronic arcades, in physical classrooms, by proxy via satellite, and over global networks.
