They learn how to find books; to use the library catalog, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and CD-ROMs; to alphabetize; to perform author research; to build a bibliography; to create a book cover and poster; to role play; and to conduct a video interview. The book also recommends various assessment tools--observation checklists, coaching and discussion, presentations, celebrations, and formal checklists for teachers and students. Cooperatively planned with classroom teachers and continually revised to meet current student needs and changing technologies, the centers approach makes the school library an active place for educators and students. Designed for elementary schools, many of the centers described in this book can also be adapted to the secondary school environment. (AEF) |
