Access to Computers Access to Information Agency Role Annual Reports Futures (of Society) Grants Internet Libraries Library Administration Library Expenditures Library Funding Library Personnel Library Planning Library Services Online Systems Professional Development Public Libraries State Agencies Statewide Planning Technology Integration This report provides a brief narrative of the activities of the Mississippi Library Commission in fiscal year 1996, featuring discussion of the Role Planning and Setting Study, telecommunications and technology initiatives, and Libraries Online! project. In the process of developing a strategic 5-year plan, the Mississippi Library Commission gathered information on its role in the development of statewide library service, its relationship with each of the state's library entities, its service priorities, and the allocation of resources. In fiscal year 1996, the Library Commission realized the vision of a network for public libraries, which will link all types of libraries to share resources, provide Internet access, and facilitate the transfer of electronic information. Libraries Online! is a partnership between Microsoft and the American Library Association aimed at providing public access to the Internet and multimedia computers nationwide, with special emphasis on disadvantaged areas. Eighteen public libraries in Mississippi received this award. This report includes the following tables and lists for fiscal year 1996 information: Mississippi Library Commission Funds Received and Expended; State Personnel Grants to Public Library Systems--listed by library system and including the system headquarters, population, and grant amount; Public Library Employees' Health Insurance; Federal Grants--divided into Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title VI; Out-of-State Travel--listed with name of employee, destination, purpose, and amount; and Meetings, Conferences and Conventions Attendance--including name of employee, purpose, and amount.
