It takes a user-centered perspective in using information technology as a tool to accomplish a variety of tasks and is divided into a series of nine interrelated yet independent chapters. Chapter 1 is an introduction to basic concepts, focusing on fundamental models of information sources and the use of library terminology. Chapter 2 teaches how to cite sources in a work, evaluate information, and use library vocabulary. Chapter 3 explains how to search digital libraries on the Internet and learn the language of Web sources and authoring tools. Chapter 4 explores information access tools such as subject searches and classification systems, like those of the Library of Congress. Chapter 5 provides various search strategies and terminology. Chapter 6 discusses the use of online library catalogs. Chapter 7 teaches how to search for periodical indexes and abstracts and seek online "help." Chapter 8 discusses different types of factual reference sources such as dictionaries and encyclopedias. Chapter 9 covers evaluating and using biographical sources, reviews, and criticism.
