This source cross references "Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd ed., 1988 revision" (AACR2R), MARC tags/subfields, and interpretations for Library of Congress rules for each of the major media categories. This book brings together information about cataloging rules, various sources of rule interpretations, and the MARC coding standards. It is not meant to replace the rules, interpretations, or coding manuals, and it does not include every rule or MARC tag. The book teaches how to turn AACR2R rules into USMARC records, guiding the user through describing the work, linking it together with other works with the same author, subjects, etc., and providing access points--authors, titles, series, added names, added titles, and subjects--that will allow the users to find those cataloged works. Organized in a similar format to AACR2R--by media type--the book also examines reference sheets with searching hints and match criteria, the relationships between fields in the cataloging record, and ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description) punctuation. The book is divided into nine chapters: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "General Cataloging Steps"; (3) "Books"; (4) "Computer Files"; (5) "Serials"; (6) "Sound Recordings"; (7) "Videorecordings"; (8) "Tags"; and (9) "Access Points." Appendices include: MARC indicator table; end of field punctuation table; and sources of information table. Contains an index. (SWC) |
