It includes more than 18,000 titles cataloged under more than 1,000 subjects. The book can be used to obtain information about children's picture books in two ways: to learn the titles, authors, and illustrators of books on a particular subject, or to ascertain the subject (or subjects) when only the title, author and title, or illustrator and title are known. The book is divided into five sections: Subject Headings; Subject Guide; Bibliographic Guide; Title Index; and Illustrator Index. The subject headings section contains an alphabetical list of subjects in the book, reflecting established terms used commonly in public libraries and including cross-references. The bibliographic guide provides full bibliographic information, with books listed alphabetically by author, or by title when the author is unknown. The title index contains an alphabetical list of all titles in the book, with authors in parentheses, followed by the page number of the full listing in the bibliographic guide. The illustrator index contains an alphabetical list of illustrators, with titles and authors, followed by the page number of the full listing in the bibliographic guide. (SWC)
