contents Children's Literature: A Guide to Information Sources. Denman-West, Margaret W. Childrens Literature Elementary Education Fiction Information Sources Library Collection Development Nonfiction Nonprint Media Periodicals Picture Books Publications Reference Materials Designed to serve as an access point to children's literature for researchers, librarians, teachers, parents, and young people, this single-volume guide covers reference materials published from 1985 through 1997. More than 325 information sources have been identified, reviewed, and individually evaluated, with entries ranging from theoretical discourses to descriptive and evaluative bibliographies on special topics. The major portion of the book is a bibliography of bibliographies. Sources include references to recommend children's books (fiction and nonfiction, including read-aloud and picture books in print and nonprint formats); materials relevant to children with special needs and talents; reference sources; biographies; core periodicals and multimedia reviews; and nonprint media. In addition to bibliographic entries, there are biographies of authors and illustrators and Internet access points (using listservs, the World Wide Web, and other resources). Indexes to various literary genres for children--such as plays, poetry, fantasy, folklore, and songs--are covered as well. The book also provides information on centers for children's literature, professional journals, and professional associations. (AEF)
