One of the first issues the task force identified was the widespread interest in African American culture that extends well beyond the African American community. Issues and recommendations covered in this publication include: needs assessment and community analysis; community connections; access; materials and collection development; personnel and staff development; services and programs; technology in libraries; marketing and awareness; funding; political concerns; and evaluation. This publication is a call to action for librarians and library directors to begin to make the needed changes in policies, procedures, services and programs that will result in enhanced service to the African American community.
