The Government Documents department has the additional task of finding students who both like and are precise in working with numbers, and instructing those students on how to read Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) classification. This paper addresses the problem of efficiently and routinely training Government Document student assistants in libraries, and includes the different training tools that are utilized in the newly developed written training program. Highlights include a description of government documents; federal government departments (agencies); category class structure; congressional information; tools for locating documents; student assistant training checklist; the government documents student assistant spot check form; and the student assistant SuDoc multiple choice test.
