This activity kit provides tools to help families and community members develop and become involved in partnerships to improve students' academic success. The kit's "organizer's guide" details steps to building local partnerships, ideas for planning partnership efforts, and information on highlighting those efforts in the media. Resources and publications from the U.S. Department of Education are also listed. In addition to the organizer's guide, the kit contains a pamphlet outlining six priority educational action areas on which to focus an "America Goes Back to School" event or long-term project. These areas are: (1) making schools safe and drug free; (2) recruiting and preparing quality teachers; (3) modernizing schools; (4) expanding after-school programs; (5) getting high standards into every classroom; and (6) increasing pathways to college and careers. Finally, the kit contains an "America Goes Back to School" activity calendar highlighting event planning tips; activities in reading, math, and science; suggested family games and reading activities; and suggested library activities.
