The book is organized in the following sections: (1) "Author Awards" includes summaries of the winner and honor books for each year, brief excerpts from selected books, and a conversation with Walter Dean Myers; (2) "Illustrations from Award-Winning Books" presents full-color illustrations from recently honored books; (3) "Illustrator Awards" contains summaries of the winner and honor books for each year, and a conversation with Jerry Pinkney; (4) "New Talent Awards" provides summaries of the winning books for 1995-99; and (5) "Selective Biographies" includes brief biographical sketches of many of the authors and illustrators.
