This volume provides up-to-date information about the Coretta Scott King award books. Celebrating 30 years of African American contributions to children's literature, it serves as a selection tool and teaching resource, in both schools and library science programs, and aids librarians and teachers in sharing the African American literary heritage with children of all cultures. The book is organized in the following sections: (1) "Author Awards" includes summaries of the winner and honor books for each year, brief excerpts from selected books, and a conversation with Walter Dean Myers; (2) "Illustrations from Award-Winning Books" presents full-color illustrations from recently honored books; (3) "Illustrator Awards" contains summaries of the winner and honor books for each year, and a conversation with Jerry Pinkney; (4) "New Talent Awards" provides summaries of the winning books for 1995-99; and (5) "Selective Biographies" includes brief biographical sketches of many of the authors and illustrators.
