contents Culturally Diverse Videos, Audios, and CD-ROMs for Children and Young Adults. Wood, Irene Asian Americans Audiotape Recordings Blacks Elementary Secondary Education Ethnic Groups Hispanic Americans Library Collection Development Library Materials Nonprint Media Optical Data Disks Preschool Education Public Libraries School Libraries Videotape Recordings The purpose of this book is to help librarians develop high quality video, audio, and CD-ROM collections for preschool through high school learning with titles that reflect the ethnic heritage and experience of the diverse North American population, primarily African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans. The more than 900 titles recommended can be used for curriculum enhancement, programming in public and school libraries, and individual enrichment and entertainment. Within each chapter, entries are typically arranged by age group, generally preschool through grade 7, and grades 8 through 12. The titles are subdivided into five thematic topics: videos pertaining to the four main ethnic groups are divided (in most cases) under arts, crafts, and music; biography; contemporary issues; history; holidays and celebrations; and stories, legends, and literature. Chapters on multicultural videos, music audios, storytelling and folklore audio recordings, and audiobooks present groupings under the multicultural heading as well as under the four main ethnic groups and the ubiquitous "other." Each entry includes the following elements: title, distributor from which the item can be ordered, year of production, length in minutes (for videos and audios), list price, ISBN number (if available), and suggested grade levels. Some entries include additional information, as needed. Includes title and subject indexes. (AEF)
