| contents | Federal Public Library Programs in Alabama, 1998. Federal Aid Library Funding Library Materials Library Services Public Libraries Reference Services Resource Allocation State Programs The Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) is charged with improving library services throughout the state to ensure that all citizens have access to quality library and information services. Part of this charge includes the responsibility for receiving and administering federal funds to the more than 200 public libraries in Alabama. Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) monies are spent on statewide projects at the APLS. These projects include providing reference services, interlibrary loans, audiovisual materials, continuing education programs, consultant services to the public libraries, coordination of a statewide children's summer library program, and special needs services. This document describes the use of these federal funds for 1998 library programs and services in Alabama's seven congressional districts. When public library service areas are included in two congressional districts, they are listed in each district and noted by an asterisk. The 1998 LSTA Advisory Council members, APLS Executive Board, and APLS Division Directors are listed at the end of the document. (AEF) |
