Animal Behavior Animals Intermediate Grades Junior High Schools Middle Schools Science Activities Science Instruction Videotape Recordings This 23-minute videotape for grades 5-8, presents the myriad of animal life that exists on the planet. Students can view and perform experiments and investigations that help explain animal traits and habits. As animals adapt to new environments, their bodies and life cycles may change over thousands of years. In this video, students find out about the various adaptations different species have undergone, and how these changes affected the lives and lifestyles of new generations. A hands-on experiment is included that demonstrates how crayfish have adapted to breathing underwater, while a visit to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum examines some surprising secrets about the world's pollinators. This program is based on the concepts outlined in the National Science Education Standards for Life Science: (1) structure and function in living systems; (2) reproduction and heredity; (3) regulation and behavior; (4) populations and ecosystems; and (5) diversity and adaptations of organisms.
