Students can view and perform experiments and investigations that help explain animal traits and habits. Students find out about the world of amphibians as they examine their physical characteristics, environments, and life cycles, as well as compare the differences between amphibians and reptiles. A hands-on experiment that explores the effects of population changes on tadpoles is featured, while a visit with Dr. Ken Nagy provides a closer look at the characteristics of amphibians, including the specialized mucus of the African pixie frog. This program is based on the concepts outlined in the National Science Education Standards for Life Science: (1) structure and function in living systems; (2) reproduction and heredity; (3) regulation and behavior; (4) populations and ecosystems; and (5) diversity and adaptations of organisms.
