Students can view and perform experiments and investigations that help explain animal traits and habits. The ancestors of reptiles date back to the dinosaurs. After the dinosaurs died out, it was one of the best-adapted species that survived and continued to thrive. In this video, students study the characteristics and unique habits of turtles, crocodiles, alligators, lizards, and snakes. A hands-on experiment that shows students how chameleons use camouflage by examining how they blend in with bark or leaves is featured. This program is based on the concepts outlined in the National Science Education Standards for Life Science: (1) structure and function in living systems; (2) reproduction and heredity; (3) regulation and behavior; (4) populations and ecosystems; and (5) diversity and adaptations of organisms.
