  • Marine & Other Invertebrates. Animal Life in Action[TM]. Schlessinger Science Library. [Videotape]. Animal Behavior Intermediate Grades Invertebrates Junior High Schools Marine Biology Science Activities Science Instruction Videotape Recordings This 23-minute videotape for grades 5-8, presents the myriad of animal life that exists on the planet. Students can view and perform experiments and investigations that help explain animal traits and habits. Invertebrate animals include a vast array of spineless creatures. In this video, students discover marine lifeforms such as jellyfish, sponges, and crabs as well as Earth-dwelling insects such as worms and snails to witness how invertebrates are an incredibly diverse and large group of animals. A hands-on experiment in which students test which environmental factors worms respond to is included, while a visit to a jellyfish laboratory at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium delves into the mysterious life cycle of these slimy invertebrates. This program is based on the concepts outlined in the National Science Education Standards for Life Science: (1) structure and function in living systems; (2) reproduction and heredity; (3) regulation and behavior; (4) populations and ecosystems; and (5) diversity and adaptations of organisms. A teacher's guide is also included. (ASK)
