Breen, Eileen Editors Evaluation Criteria Evaluation Methods Foreign Countries Information Science Journal Articles Library Science Publishing Industry Scholarly Journals Scholarly Writing Workshops This paper reviews the purposes and standards for library and information science journals and then looks specifically at the evaluation process for an Anglophone journal, based in the United Kingdom, of which most of the contributors and readers are from Asia. Part 1, "The Editor's Perspective," addresses the following topics: the purpose of scholarly writing; stylistic trends in scholarly articles, including titles and abstracts, as well as discussion and presentation; editors and referees; criteria for assessment; and refereed articles and professional papers. Part 2, "The Publisher's Perspective," discusses the Literati Club (the MCB University Press network of authors, editors, and editorial board members), PeerNet (an electronic service that is an alternative to the traditional peer review process), and consortia workshops.
