Elementary Secondary Education Mail Surveys National Surveys Private Schools Public Schools Questionnaires Research Methodology School Libraries School Personnel Teacher Supply and Demand This publication contains the questionnaires used by the U.S. Bureau of the Census to conduct the 1999-2000 Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) and the Private School Universe Survey (PSS) for the National Center for Education Statistics. SASS is a mail survey of schools, teachers, principals, and school district administrators. The PSS is a data collection program designed primarily to develop a complete list of private schools in the United States. The SASS has five main components: (1) School District Survey (formerly the Teacher Demand and Shortage Survey); (2) Principal Survey; (3) School Survey; (4) Teacher Survey; and (5) Library Survey. There are public, private, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and charter school versions of all components except the School District Survey. These surveys are included in this collection, as well as the Teacher Listing Form used to collect the names and teaching assignments of all teachers employed at SASS schools. The PSS survey is also included. In all, the collection contains 18 surveys. (SLD)
