The project also determined the impact on academic achievement of: specific activities of certified school librarians; principal and teacher support of school library programs; and information technology, particularly licensed databases and the Internet/World Wide Web. A sample of 500 school libraries was surveyed. Findings in the following areas are presented: (1) presence of adequate school library staffing linked to higher PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) reading scores; (2) PSSA reading scores increase as school library staffing increases; (3) school library staffing linked to library expenditures, information resources and technology, and integrating information literacy; (4) school library expenditures linked to information resources; (5) information resources linked to integrating information literacy; (6) information technology linked to integrating information literacy; (7) PSSA reading scores linked directly to school library staffing, information technology, and integrating information literacy; and (8) how highest and lowest scoring schools compare on school library predictors of academic achievement.
