Academic Libraries Evaluation Criteria Higher Education Librarians Library Policy Library Surveys Personnel Evaluation Professional Development Questionnaires Research Libraries Tenure This SPEC (Systems and Procedures Exchange Center) Kit reports results of a survey of ARL (Association of Research Libraries) that examined post-tenure review of librarians throughout higher education in North America. The purpose of the survey was to identify which institutions apply post-tenure or post-continuing appointment review to library professionals, whether the policy is the same as for faculty, what the process and criteria for review are, and what the consequences and impact of review are for library professionals. A copy of the questionnaire with tabulated results is presented. The following representative documents from participating libraries are included: (1) tenure and continuing appointment policies from Colorado State University, Iowa State University, and Texas Tech University; (2) tenure criteria from Colorado State University, Iowa State University, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Tennessee; (3) post-tenure review policy from Colorado State University, Iowa State University, the University of Florida, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Tennessee, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, and Virginia Tech University; (4) professional development plans from the University of Hawaii, Indiana University, and Texas A&M University; and (5) discipline and dismissal policies from Colorado State University, Iowa State University, Pennsylvania State University, and Texas Tech University.
