It argues that librarians have an important role to play in overcoming the digital divide and makes reference to the Global Knowledge Partnership. Highlights include: ways that ICT can help the disadvantaged; examples of community-based telecommunications; challenges related to developing appropriate skills and content; and the value of libraries' traditional contributions (e.g., providing access, working in partnership, structuring knowledge, imparting skills, preserving heritage, and inspiring trust) in the knowledge society.
