| contents | Reaching Every Reader: Promotional Strategies for the Elementary School Library Media Specialist. Professional Growth Series. Miller, Pat Creative Dramatics Educational Games Elementary Education Information Literacy Language Arts Learning Activities Learning Resources Centers Mathematics Multiple Intelligences Puppetry School Activities School Libraries Sciences Social Studies Story Telling This book is designed for overextended librarians and for those who are looking for fresh approaches to what they have been doing for years. The intent in the book is to incorporate traditional techniques, such as storytelling and puppetry, with the use of technology, particularly the Internet--many different learning styles are incorporated to reach every reader. Chapter One presents numerous ideas and examples of working with teachers to plan cooperative lessons. Chapter Two is about storytelling techniques, especially using some attention-getting but simple props. Chapter Three shows novice puppeteers how to begin and provides old hands with new ideas. Chapter Four describes how to adapt traditional games to a variety of skills. Chapter Five contains numerous songs related to the curriculum (musical intelligence is underused in the library). Chapter Six discusses ways to get out of a lesson rut by using creative dramatics and out of the walls of the library with virtual field trips for all topics. Chapter Seven gives librarians lots of ways to brighten the days of faculty and staff. Chapter Eight packs a treasure chest of ideas, lessons, and center activities; these lessons can be correlated with a variety of standards in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Contains bibliographies of children's books, of professional books, of Internet sites, and of software. Appendixes contain nine information literacy standards, learning and teaching principles of school media programs, and publishers' Web sites. Also contains many reproducibles. (NKA) |
