contents What's Cooking in Children's Literature. Professional Growth Series. Spencer, Gwynne Childrens Literature Cooking Instruction Cooperative Learning Elementary Education Group Activities Reading Motivation Recipes (Food) Student Participation This cookbook is designed to help teachers and librarians engage in beneficial collaborations to bring reading to the lips of students in new and "delicious" ways. The more than 200 recipes offered in the book will tempt even the most reluctant reader of any age to "nibble" at a new book. The book's recipes enhance the process of learning so much that preparing them with students is worth the effort and energy required. Every one of the book's recipes includes ties to at least one book to be found on the library shelf--some recipes can be used with many books on the same topic. The book's introduction provides much practical information about cooking with children and lists some ground rules that teachers and librarians might want to set down. Recipes in the book are arranged alphabetically by book title. The index lists them by book title, author, and recipe name as well. A "Special Cooking Vocabulary" is also included. (NKA)
