The instructional objective is for students to select a topic of study relating to Africa, write a thesis statement, collect information from media sources, and develop a conclusion. The teacher may assign the lesson for written or oral evaluation. The teacher prepares a topic list to guide students to the preferred area of study and research. The lesson plan requires the student to use libraries and to: (1) use study skills to complete tasks, monitor success, and record and restructure information; (2) use research skills to evaluate, select, record, and reorganize information; (3) use reference skills to locate information from a variety of sources; and (4) use critical thinking skills to solve research problems.
