contents South Carolina State Library Annual Report, 1999-2000. Annual Reports Library Administration Library Collection Development Library Funding Library Materials Library Networks Library Services Library Statistics Public Libraries State Libraries Tables (Data) This report summarizes the activities of the South Carolina State Library for 1999-2000. The current strategic plan contains five strategic goals: provide information resources and services to meet the needs of the people of South Carolina; provide statewide programs to support local library services; serve as the advocate for libraries in South Carolina; encourage cooperation among libraries of all types; and continuously improve State Library operations and services. This report highlights the State Library's progress towards meeting these goals. The report is divided into the following sections: Organization and Operations; Activities-FY 2000; Statistical Summary; Financial Statement; and South Carolina State Library Staff. FY 2000 activities are discussed in terms of the following: State Library Users; State Library Collections; DISCUS-South Carolina's Virtual Library; Information Services; South Carolina State Documents Depository Program; Consultant Services; Grant Administration; Children's Services; Continuing Education; Public Library Construction; Marketing/Public Information Services; Filtering; Collaborations; South Carolina Library Network; Internet/Telecommunications Project; South Carolina Group Database Licensing Project; Staff Development; Volunteer Program; and Facilities. Highlights of the year's accomplishments include: the expansion of the number of information databases available in DISCUS-South Carolina's Virtual Library which insures that South Carolinians have access to information regardless of local funding or geographic area; the appropriation for fiscal year 2000 of $2 per capita in State Aid to local public libraries, the culmination of a 5 year campaign by library supporters; and the relocation of the State Library's Department for the Blind and Physically Handicapped and other State Library Departments into the renovated building formerly occupied by the State Archives and History Department. Appendices include library directories (Public Library Board Chairmen; South Carolina Public Libraries; South Carolina State Institutional Libraries; South Carolina State Institutional Libraries) and tables of library statistics, 1999-2000 (Public Libraries: Comparative Summary; South Carolina Public Libraries; South Carolina State Institutional Libraries; South Carolina College and University Libraries).
