  • Can "Twinning" Be Applied Effectively to Small Library Associations? Amenu-Kpodo, Norma Cooperative Programs Developing Nations Foreign Countries Institutional Cooperation International Cooperation Library Associations Role Surveys Based on an informal survey of 26 small national library associations, this paper examines "twinning" (i.e., a formal substantive collaboration between two organizations) between library associations in general and with particular emphasis on the small associations' experience. It examines their characteristics and discusses the perceived benefits and challenges such a twinning partnership provides. The paper advances the view that the challenges can be overcome and that there are a set of circumstances that create successful twinning. It ends by discussing the role of small associations in fostering this success and makes recommendations on ways large associations and IFLA/RTMLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions/Round Table on the Management of Library Associations) can assist in the endeavor. A list of associations surveyed is appended. (Author/MES)
